A recap of the Tony Dow and Stephano show written by Ella Watson
Saturday, May third was an exciting weekend. Not just because I woke up breathing and joyously alive, but because Tony Dow was in Little Rock for an opening show at Stephano’s. Most people acknowledge him for gracing “Leave it to Beaver” as Wally, but what they need to realize is that Tony is an immensely gifted sculptor. His creations are gorgeous and infatuating.
Tony works primarily with burl wood, a section of the tree that connects the trunk to the roots. This makes his work unique and separates him from most sculptors. Tony is a remarkable human being and those who were able to come to the show realized this after examining his work and getting to converse with him.
Ashley and Stephano went out of the way to make every guest feel honored and welcome. There was a food truck in the parking lot that served mouth-watering sandwiches. There was an open bar that catered to those who desired a refreshing beverage. And must I say the inside was splendid. It was quiet an occasion to be around eager and inspiring souls, all gathered to celebrate and honor Tony and Stephano’s work.
Tony’s sculptures were displayed all across the gallery and Stephano’s work draped the walls. After an hour or so, I was given the task of snapping pictures of the event. Ashley did a remarkable job pulling all the details together and helping with photography was the least I could do to show her gratitude.
People stayed late into the evening chatting with Tony and Stephano. The enthusiasm and interest was contagious. And sweet Lauren Dow was gracious in talking with me for a little while. I learned what it took to put on a successful opening show and was encourage by the large amounts of people that poured into the gallery throughout the night.
What an enjoyable evening.
If you missed it, I am greatly sorry. But, many more memorable events are soon to come and I hope to see you're inspiring soul there!
