Sculptor Tony Dow
Tony Dow was born into a "showbiz" family on April 13, 1945 in Hollywood, California. His mother, Muriel Montrose had worked in the film industry, as a stuntwoman in early westerns, was a Mack Sennett bathing beauty and Clara Bow’s double. His father was designer and builder of hundreds of California ranch style homes in the Los Angeles area. Growing up in an artistic atmosphere and a house filled with his parent’s eccentric friends it was no surprise, as a young child, that Tony developed a love for creating art, especially assemblage and sculpting. But as fate would have it, in 1957 he fell into the roll of "Wally" on the hit show, "Leave It To Beaver" which would change the course of his life. When the show ended in 1963, he went on to do guest appearances on a variety of television shows. In the eighties Tony began directing television shows which kept him busy for the next twenty years. Throughout his life he has pursued many forms of creativity: first as an actor, director, writer and producer, builder, woodworker, painter and sculptor. His talent lies in the area of modern sculpture, and one of his bronze pieces is on display in the courtyard garden of his TV Mom, Barbara Billingsley. Tony has shown at the Del Mar, Westwood and Avalon art festivals. Having had shows at the Topanga Gallery and the Morgan Gallery he is currently represented by Stephano’s Fine Art Gallery in Little Rock, Arkansas. As an indication of the quality of his work, in 2008, Tony was chosen along with thirteen artists to represent America at the prestigious Societe Nationale Des Beaux-Arts Salon 2008 at the Louvre in Paris
