SQUARES, SQUARES, SQUARES - THE UNIQUE ART OF MIKE GAINES AT STEPHANOS

An Arkansas native, Mike spent several years in the Washington, DC area as a member of the Clinton Administration - serving as President Clinton's Chair of the US Parole Commission. That followed over 15 years in various Arkansas positions, including working on the staffs of Governors Dale Bumpers, David Pryor, and Bill Clinton.

Self-taught, Mike has been painting for over 30 years and his work is in private and corporate collections from Washington, DC to Beverly Hills. His paintings and sculpture have been seen on NBC's "Kidnapped" and the online "The Totally Rad Show".

Influenced early on by Victor Vasarely, Mike's work has evolved through the years from geometric abstracts to more traditional watercolor landscapes and portraits. In the past several years, however, he has continually returned to his lifelong facination with pointillism. That, coupled with an admiration for the grid-work portraiture of Chuck Close, has inspired Mike's unique recent works involving mosaic-like representations on canvas.
