This collection is based on our rescue dog, Diego. If you have been in one of our galleries, then you have met this sweet ball of fur. And like most crazy pet parents, we like to assign human attributes to our animals, such as voices and personality traits. This collection is composed mainly ofcommissions from people that are just as crazy about their furry family members as we are!
I started out over 20 years ago painting as a pop artist. I have always loved color and the stylings of Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Jasper Johns and hope that my work reflects my influences. I am attracted to pop culture and its icons. I have painted hundreds of faces throughout my career, such as: Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Frida Kahlo, Neil Young, Jerry Garcia, Robert Duvall, Sam Elliot, Etta James, Levon Helm, Willie Nelson, BB King, Blondie, and many more in between.
This is part of my new series that I started 3 years ago entitled First Nation in Color. My inspiration for the series developed after my wife and I took a 3 month journey through the West in 2015. My first painting to come out of the series was Winter Bison and it was painted in West Yellowstone at our campground. After that, something sparked a fire inside of me and all I could do was envision the beautiful black and white photographs from Edward S. Curtis in full color. I am technically considered a pop artist so, my mind naturally sees things in vivid colors. As an artist, when an idea comes to my mind I can't sleep until I have purged my vision onto canvas. And this is how the series began.
Now, we spend our Summers in Virginia City, Montana running a gallery in one of the oldest and intact gold mining towns. Montana never disappoints with its rich history and Native American culture. I am grateful for the opportunity to paint, live and study such an amazing culture. #gratefulpainter
